The short version#
Clockar has no accounts and no ads. The preferences you set are saved on your own device and are not sent to us. To understand how the site is used, we use Google Analytics, which is added through Cloudflare Zaraz and may set cookies on your device. This page explains the details.
What Clockar stores on your device#
Clockar uses your browser's local storage (not cookies) to remember choices you make, so the site is as you left it:
- your theme (light or dark), the 12-hour or 24-hour format and whether the clock face is shown;
- the cities you add to your world clock and your chosen home city;
- the state of the stopwatch and timer, so a running timer survives a page reload.
This data stays in your browser. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings, and the site works without it. Clockar's own code does not set cookies; the analytics tool described below may.
Analytics: Google Analytics, added through Cloudflare Zaraz#
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see how the site is used, for example which pages are viewed, how long visits last, whether people leave after one page, which countries visits come from, what kind of device and browser is used, and which site sent the visitor. We use the reports to see overall usage and to improve the site.
Google Analytics is loaded for us by Cloudflare Zaraz, a Cloudflare tool that manages third-party tools. Google Analytics may set cookies or use similar identifiers on your device, and it receives information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, your device and browser details and an approximate location worked out from your network address. Google processes that data under its own policies: see Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can opt out. Google offers a browser add-on that turns off Google Analytics, and most browsers and content blockers can block analytics scripts and cookies. The site works the same if you do.
Your location#
Clockar can show the time for the city nearest to you, but only when you press Show my city. Your browser then asks for permission. If you allow it, your position is used inside your browser to find the nearest city in our list. It is not sent to our server and not stored.
Separately, Cloudflare, which hosts the site, tells our server an approximate location (country, city and time zone) for each request, based on your network address. We use it only to choose sensible defaults for the first page you see, such as the local time of your region. We do not store it.
What our hosting provider sees#
Clockar is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives technical information with each request, such as your network address and browser type, and keeps its own logs to deliver and secure the service. Cloudflare's own privacy policy describes how it handles that data. The only analytics tool we add ourselves is the one described above, and we show no advertising.
The home page also asks our server for the current time (/api/time) so that it can show how far your device clock is from the exact time. That request carries no personal information.
Links to other sites#
Pages and articles link to other sites, such as source material and a map link for a city. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We do not share information with them when you load a Clockar page; a link only takes effect if you follow it.
Children#
Clockar does not ask for personal information from anyone, so there is nothing that is specific to children.
Changes#
If this policy changes, we update this page and its "Last updated" date.
